Why Reap?
As the first Legal Counsel in Mexico, you will be a key member of Reap’s in-house legal team supporting a wide range of legal functions - focusing on general corporate and commercial work to support Reap’s LATAM operations. You will partner closely with and support business teams to drive strategic impact in a fast-paced, purpose-driven start-up environment.
What You'll Do
Contract Review and Negotiation: Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements, including B2B customer contracts, SaaS agreements, API licensing, payment network agreements (e.g., Visa), and strategic partnerships.
Corporate Governance: Support corporate compliance requirements for Mexican entities, including maintaining corporate records and liaising with external counsel as needed.
Regulatory & Compliance Strategy: Navigate complex, multi-jurisdictional regulatory frameworks relating to payments, digital assets, and data privacy. Assist in obtaining and maintaining financial licenses across key global markets.
Ad-Hoc Legal Matters: Provide pragmatic, business-oriented legal advice on day-to-day operational, product and strategic issues.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product, finance, compliance and risk teams to assess legal risks and implement solutions aligned with business goals.
What We're Looking For
LLB, JD or equivalent degree, with qualification to practice law in Mexico.
5+ years of post-qualification experience in corporate/commercial law. In-house experience in a start-up environment and/or fintech or web3 industry is a plus.
Business fluent Spanish and English language skills (speaking and writing, including negotiating and contract drafting), fluency in Portuguese will be a big plus.
Familiarity with Mexican regulatory regimes applicable to payments, financial products and virtual assets activities.
Strong project management and organization skills with exceptional attention to detail and thoughtfulness. Ability to juggle competing priorities and keep legal projects on track, while coordinating with stakeholders and following through to completion of each project.
Comfortable taking ownership of responsibilities, working independently and navigating ambiguity.
